Mark your calendar for Saturday June 9, 2012 for our 6th annual event. Join us for the 10K, 5K, dog walk, and pet festival that will again feature live music, food vendors, and a variety of activties for you and your pets
Event Details
This event is a fundraiser to benefit the Animal Services Center that is part road race, part charity walk, and part pet festival. But it's 100% fun!
Last year there were 189 runners in the 10K, over 160 in the 5K, and over 250 dog walkers. The event generated over $36,000 in registrations, pledges, donations and sponsorships.
This year the 10K is included in the Rochester Runner of the Year (RROY) Series. We received a lot of positive feedback about the 5K and will continue to offer both distances. The dog walk grows each year so plan to stick around and mingle with the various breeds and mixed breeds of all shapes and sizes. Planning is well underway and it should be another fun and impactful day.
Help Our Cause
Animal Services intakes over 6,000 dogs and cats annually. Many are reunited with their owners, adopted into new homes, or transerred to partnering rescue organizations. Unfortunately, approximately 60% are euthanized.The event helps raise funds in support of the adoption and spay/neuter programs at the Animal Services Center
Form a Team to Help Raise Funds
There were over 20 teams in 2011. Forming a team is a great way to demonstrate your organization's support for the animal shelter without any added expense. Hattie's Club/Xerox Friends was the largest team and the top fundraising team due in part to Carol Giotto, the top individual fund raiser and Mary Wilson, the second place fund raiser. Carol raised $730 in pledges, followed by Mary at $660, and Michelle Garcia at $330.
Next year, we anticipate an even larger pool of teams helping to raise still greater funds to support this worthy cause. Please help us help the animals by forming a team today.
- Designate one person as team captain
- The captain should register and create a team online
- Recruit team members
- Direct each member to register and select your team
- Start gathering pledges online or by downloading a pledge form
- Make team t-shirts (optional)
- Plan your strategy for leading the pack
Raise funds throughout the year to increase your impact
- Consider bake sales, garage sales, bottle drives, third-party fundraisers, etc. to boost your team earnings
Entertainment
The post-race activities will again feature live music by Travis Fitch in Brown Square Park beginning as soon as the first runner crosses the finish line and continuing throughout the morning and into the afternoon. The party will continue after the pet contests so plan to stick around and make a day of it.
